The Army ROTC – distinct from the Navy and Air Force ROTC programs – is one of the nation’s biggest scholarship grantors. The Army ROTC provided $376 million in scholarship money to more than 15,000 students in 2019, according to the U.S. Army Cadet Command.
During the first two years, ROTC cadets have no military obligation (unless they are a scholarship winner).
You can serve full time in the Army for three years (four years for scholarship winners), with the balance in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR).

In college, Army ROTC classes normally involve one elective class and one lab per semester. Although the classes involve hands-on fieldwork as well as classroom work, they are standard college classes that fit into a normal academic schedule.
No, you’ll receive this training as part of your ROTC coursework, so you do not have to attend Basic Combat Training. If interested, you can request to attend Basic Camp which provides 2nd-year students additinoal training.
After graduation, you will commission as an Officer in the United States Army in the rank of Second Lieutenant (2LT) and attend Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC). This course varies on your job (branch) selection and will prepare you for your career as an Army Officer through classroom and field training.
You can apply for a two (2), three (3), or four-year (4) scholarship depending on your grade level at BSU.
Once approved, you can choose either room and board (a flat $5000) or 100% tuition and fees (varies per student by course load and residency). All students who contract into ROTC will get a $420 monthly stipend (scholarship and non-scholarship).
